There is rising tension in Rivers State ahead of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Saturday as the Ogoni Ethnic Nationality, made up of chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and the entire people of Ogoni land have issued a warning to the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and his political allies, including Victor Giadom and Dakuku Peterside against fermenting trouble in the land.

In a statement issued on Friday, Baribe Yorko, Secretary, Ogoni Ethnic Nationality also raised the alarm, accusing  the Commander of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of the state of taking delivery of Hilux vans, but did not disclose the purpose of the vans.

The Ogoni elders and chiefs also accused the SARS Commander of giving specific instructions to his boys whom they claim “now go on rampage in some villages in Ogoni, to go out tomorrow and do everything possible to disrupt the elections, hijack materials and kill anyone who confronts them.

“Yesterday evening in Tai, in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, the SARS Commander led his men to Tai, to attack innocent women and youths in the area,” the statement read but without giving details of the attack.
