President Bola Tinubu has removed Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL. A statement signed by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesman also said that Pius Akinyelure, the chairman of the board lost his job in the ‘restructuring’ exercise.
In their places are Bashir Ojulari, as the Group CEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida, as the board chairman. Other appointments include Adedapo Segun who comes in as the chief financial officer, replacing Umaru Ajiya. Segun was appointed last November, and he is now on the new board.
Six new board members, being non-executive directors were appointed to represent the six geopolitical zones in the country.
They are Babs Omotowa, former managing director of the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas. He represents the North Central geopolitical zone on the board. He is joined by Henry Obi, from the Southeast; Austin Avuru, South South, Bello Rabiu, Northwest; Yusuf Usman, Northeast and David Ige, Southwest.
According to the statement, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, permanent secretary in the ministry of finance will represent the ministry on the board. Aminu Ahmed represents the ministry of petroleum resources.
The president gave the new board the mandate “to conduct a strategic portfolio review of NNPCL -operated and joint venture assets to ensure alignment with value maximization objectives.”
