Two more members of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Abu, representing Lavun/Mokwa/Idati Federal Constituency of Niger State, and Olemija Stephen, who represents Akoko North-East/West of Ondo State have dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. This comes a day after two members announced their defection to other parties.
A letter read by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara this Thursday, indicated that the lawmakers hinged their defection on the conduct of the APC primaries. While Abu announced he was defecting to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Olemija defected to Action Alliance, AA.
The APC has been at loggerhead with several of its members across the country over lack of internal democracy and manipulation in the conduct of their last primary elections. Some of the aggrieved members have taken their matters to court while the party has threatened to sanction such members if they don’t withdraw their court cases.
