More details have emerged about the kidnap and killing of Prince Eloniyo Dennis Abuda who was abducted with three other of his Fugar kinsmen on Saturday, January 30. After a thorough search of the forest along the Benin by-pass where they were ambushed by the suspected killer Fulani herdsmen, the decomposing body of the Atlanta, Georgia-based realtor and insurance broker was discovered on Wednesday.
The state police public relations officer, Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed Abuda and others’ abduction, said Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu “personally led operatives to the scene this morning (Wednesday) and they are still in the forest on active combing of the bush”.
Sources who should know however said the President of Fugar America Foundation was shot by his captors after he slumped in the course of the long trek into the forest due to exhaustion. The three others who were later released after payment of ransom, including that of the deceased, were marched further into the bush from where they opened negotiations with their families.
An unconfirmed source hinted the magazine that three kidnappers were captured and one killed during the combing of the forest by the search party.
There was a strong suspicion that the deceased, who came home to celebrate the Christmas and new year holidays with his extended family and kinsmen in Fugar, Etsako Central local government area of Edo State, may have inadvertently given himself out as a video in which he was dancing to the music of some local drummers and spraying a wad of US dollar notes surfaced on social media.
Abuda was on his way to Lagos to catch a flight to the US when their vehicle was attacked along the Benin by-pass and the occupants led into the bush.
