Popular Nigerian cleric, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has stirred massive controversy after appearing in a viral video where he was seen brandishing a gun-like object during a confrontation with another road user in Lagos.
Following public uproar, Pastor Adefarasin voluntarily turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command, where he was interrogated by police investigators and gave a cautionary statement regarding the incident.
According to a statement by the Lagos State Police, the object seen in the video was recovered and confirmed not to be a lethal weapon or firearm, but rather a stun gun—a device classified under prohibited anti-riot equipment in Nigeria.
While the stun gun is not capable of causing fatal harm, its possession and use in such a context remain illegal. Police sources confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing, and the pastor has been granted bail pending further inquiries.
The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the appropriateness of a religious leader brandishing any form of weapon in public. Others have called for the law to take its full course, regardless of status or public profile.
Pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder of the House on the Rock Church, is known for his influential role in Nigeria’s Christian community and often preaches messages of peace and integrity. This incident, however, has raised serious questions and left many of his followers shocked.
As investigations continue, the public awaits clarity on whether further charges will be brought and what consequences, if any, the high-profile pastor might face.
