A judge of the Lagos division of the federal high court has been penalized for misconduct. The judge, Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia will not earn any promotion throughout what is left of her career on the bench. Soji Oye, acting director of the National Judicial Council, NJC, the body responsible for the appointment and discipline of judges in the country made this known in a statement. According to the statement, the affected judge will also not be considered for any ad-hoc appointment.
This followed a petition by one Victoria Ayeniwho alleged that the judge failed to deliver judgement in a pre-election case involving her and Olusola Sonuga and others. Not only that, justice Ofili-Ajumogobia was alleged to have adjourned the matter severally until the expiration of the life span of the Ogun state house of assembly.
