Tinubu Replaces Service Chiefs, Appoints Oluyede as New Chief of Defence Staff
President Bola Tinubu reshuffles Nigeria’s military leadership, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede and other new service chiefs to boost national security and strengthen the country’s defence architecture.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military leadership, appointing new service chiefs in a bid to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and enhance operational efficiency across the armed forces.
According to an official statement released from the State House and signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the changes take immediate effect.
Under the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff, while Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the Chief of Army Staff. Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as the Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas becomes the Chief of Naval Staff.
Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff and other former service chiefs for their patriotic service and leadership during their tenure.
The President charged the newly appointed military heads to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.
“The appointments take immediate effect,” the statement emphasised.
The new military appointments come amid ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reform Nigeria’s security system and sustain progress in countering terrorism, banditry, and other national security threats.
