Gbemisola Saraki, a former Senator has indicated interest to contest the Kwara State governorship election in 2015 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
In a statement she was said to have sent to Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, the PDP statechairman, Saraki said she resolved to contest the election after much consultationwith stakeholders across the state.
The former Senator said, there have been several calls by family members, friends and members of the party on her to “lead the state out of its present state of hopelessness and stagnation which the ruling party has deliberately thrown it into.”
Giving further reasons for her decision, Saraki said she knows that “we face an electorate that has been exhausted by broken promises, bad governance, collapse infrastructure, an ailing economy, and a host of other problems that seem to defy solutions.”
She however said that “with the support of our party, I believe I would bring my experience and connection to bear to salvage our dear state from the brink of collapse.”
Saraki who had also contested the position in 2011 on the platform of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, ACPN and was floored by the incumbent governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, is a younger sister of Bukola Saraki, former governor of the state.
