Herbert Wigwe, Group Managing Director, Access Bank, has announced that the bank has launched a N10 billion special loan to support female entrepreneurs in Nigeria.
Wigwe stated this on Wednesday at the 2014 Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Nigeria, WED, event held at Access Bank Head Office, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
“I want to inform you that Access bank loves women and will always have your interests at heart. The bank has recently launched a N10 billion special loan to support female entrepreneurs because women play a pivotal role in the development of our country. Women have shown that they have far better reasoning than men,” Wigwe said.
The event organized by Access Bank, Women Of West Africa, WOWe, and the Wcommunity, highlighted the need for total gender equality across the world, the need for women not to dread dreaming big, and the need to encourage girls to be themselves.
Mo Abudu, Executive Chairman, Ebonylife TV; Udo Okonjo, Managing Director, West Africa, Fine and Country, and Betty Irabor, Chief Executive Officer, Genevieve Magazine, were keynote speakers at the event.
Abudu charged women in her speech to dream big and not to succumb to any adversaries that come their way in business.
“Women should know that every dream killer you meet, out there is a dream maker waiting for you. Don’t give up and keep pushing. You should not expect that because I am a woman I should thread carefully. As a woman you be as qualified as the men. The bank will not give you loan for free because you are a woman,” she said.
The event had Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, CEO, Wecylers; Tariye Gbadegesin, Founder, Propel solutions; Chizor Malize, CEO, Brand Zone; Chichi Nwoko-Udeokoro, President, What’s ON?; Amaechi Okobi, Head of Communications and external affairs, Access Bank and a host of other dignitaries in attendance.
