At least five people were killed when unidentified armed men attacked Kasakakairu, a Kenyan village, before dawn today.
According to eyewitness accounts, the men who were armed with guns and machetes invaded the city centre shooting and hacking residents to death. They later moved to Kasakakairu village and hacked targeted residents to death moving from door to door.
Kasakakairu is approximately34 kilometers away from Mpeketoni, a southeastern Kenyan coastal town where terrorists killed dozens of people in an attack earlier this month.
Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenyan President said last week that Al-Shabaab, the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group in Somalia was not responsible for the Mpeketoni attack even when the group claimed responsibility. Rather, Kenyatta blamed it on a local political network.
Six people who were seriously injured in today’s attack have been admitted into a local hospital while police are checking the area for more victims.
