Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has decided to clear the air on the controversies surrounding his certificate.
Buhari addressed a press conference on Wednesday barely 24 hours after a spokesman of the Nigeria Army said the certificate in question was not in Buhari’s personal file with the Army Board.
The APC Presidential candidate told a news conference in Kano that he attended the former Provincial Secondary School, Katsina, now Government College, Katsina.
“All my records were in the custody of the Secretary, Nigerian Army, a position I was privileged to occupy myself.
“But since I am now told that although a record of the result is available but there is no copy of the certificate in my personal file, I have formally requested my old school to make available the school copy of the result,” Buhari said.
Buhari told reporters that he graduated from the Secondary School in 1961 in the same year with late Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’adua, and Justice Umaru Abdullahi, the former President, Federal Court of Appeal.
“My examination number is 8200002 and I passed the examination with second division. As soon as the result is ready it will be distributed to newsmen for their verification,” he promised.
Addressing the conference, Buhari who had previously been silent on the matter described the insinuation that he does not have a certificate as simply “baseless.”
