A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Uhunmwode Local Government Chairman, Charles Idahosa has died at the age of 72 years. Idahosa, former Commissioner for Information during ex-Governor Lucky Igbinedion’s administration, who family sources say did not show any sign of ill-health, was said to have died in his sleep Saturday afternoon.
Though there has been no official statement from the family concerning Idahosa’s demise, a family source said, “Daddy was full of life this morning. As usual, he came downstairs receiving people. I don’t know what happened; it is shocking”.
An inside source hinted the magazine that he had distributed Christmas rice to family, friends and political associates and retired to his room in the afternoon to take a nap but passed on in his sleep.
A close associate and family friend, Nosa Ehima who was distraught and shocked at Idahosa’s death, said they were together two days earlier at the wedding ceremony of the children of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, APC chieftain and Matthew Iduriyekemwen, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart.
According to him, he was hale and hearty, and they all exchanged banters. “That is life for you. It tells you that there is nothing to it. anyone can just go at any time. It is such a big blow”, he mourned.
Idahosa, popularly known as ‘Owie Akakasiaka’ and ‘Charlie Tempo’ was a very vocal politician and was a political adviser to ex-Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the eight years he was in office.
He pitched his tent with Godwin Obaseki when he fell out with Oshiomhole as governor and even wrote a book titled: “The Fall of the last godfather”. He also defected with Obaseki to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) when he was denied a second term ticket by the APC ahead of the 2020 governorship election.
The late Idahosa, however, fell out with Obaseki after his re-election, and he was among the first politicians to publicly voice his dissatisfaction to the former governor’s treatment of party leaders and members. He went back to the APC and was also the first to release jingles for Governor Monday Okpebholo’s election.
