There are concerns over the safety of #Endsars protesters who are camping at the Alausa, the Lagos State secretariat. The youth, among who are artists, are protesting against police brutality, most of which are perpetrated by officers and men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS.
The protest, also being carried out in other parts of the country, was accentuated by the increased cases of police brutality even as the reaction of the authorities in checking the actions of the policemen is being commended by people.
Trouble started when the youths decided to campaign against a video that was trending on social media about a young lady allegedly shot by a runaway policeman, believed to be on a SARS team in Lagos.
The development has further increased the anger of Nigerians on the excesses of a police squad that was created to tackle robbery in the country. But at the peaceful protest at Alausa there are reports of a show of brute force by policemen. One police officer was shown in a video loading his gun and threatening the protesters.
This happened after they were assured that they could camp out at the Alausa. The youths reported that the light there was put out, and the policemen attempted to force them out of the area.
