Fresh violence linked to rival cult groups has rocked Ijora Badia in Lagos State, leaving one person dead and residents gripped by fear following renewed clashes between Eiye and Aye factions.

The victim, identified as Orji, was said to be a member of the Aye (Akamaye Boys) group. He was killed on Monday afternoon during a violent confrontation with the rival Eiye (Obale Boys) faction.

Eyewitnesses said tensions escalated when suspected Aye members moved into Obale for a retaliatory attack after earlier hostilities. However, they were met by armed Eiye members who had reportedly anticipated the move. Gunshots were fired, forcing the Aye group to flee. Orji was reportedly hit during the chaos and later confirmed dead.

The latest incident is believed to be part of a long-running cycle of reprisal attacks between the two groups, which began in Orile Iganmu in 2025 and has since spread to nearby communities, including Ijora Badia.

Sources recall that the conflict intensified last November during a cultural festival in Orile Iganmu, where an earlier attack led to multiple casualties. The violence resurfaced again in January 2026 with another fatal incident, deepening hostilities between both factions.

Over the weekend, the situation further deteriorated when suspected Eiye members allegedly invaded Akamaye, attacking the wife of a rival cult member. She sustained injuries but survived after receiving medical attention.

Police intervention reportedly prevented an earlier confrontation on Monday morning. However, the groups regrouped later in the day, culminating in the deadly clash now drawing widespread attention.

Residents say Obale and Akamaye have increasingly become safe havens for fleeing cult members, raising serious security concerns for law-abiding citizens in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command had not issued an official statement, though security presence has reportedly been reinforced to prevent further escalation.

Community leaders and concerned residents have renewed calls for decisive action against cult activities, warning that continued violence endangers innocent lives and undermines public safety.

Authorities have again urged youths to reject cultism, stressing that the ongoing rivalry continues to destroy lives, families, and communities across Lagos.
