Award winning artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido,has been nominated by the MTV European Music Awards, for the Best African Act 2014 Awards.
The award presentation is scheduled to hold in Glasgow, Scotland, in November.
A statement from Bruse Gillmer, Viacom International Media Network Europe, organizers of the event, said Davido was the only nominee from Nigeria.“Other African nominees to battle it out with Davido for supremacy in this keenly contested category include Goldfish from South Africa, Diamond from Tanzania and Toofan from Togo,” it said.
The statement also states that this is the fifth year that MTVis including Best African Act category in the EMA.Previous winners of this award include2Face in 2005, Freshly Ground in 2006, D’Banj, whowon the award in 2007 and 2012, and LCNVL in 2013.
MTVfor the first time, is throwing open an EMA nomination to music fans via social media to nominate the fifth nominee in which Tiwa Savage of Nigeria is included among those to be decided by fans.This wild card Twitter vote is open until September 14, by which time MTV EMA nominees will be announced and voting will commence on September 16.
Davido, a performer, music producer and recording artiste, recently won other intercontinental awards which includes, BET award for Best International Act and AFRIMMA awards for Artiste of the Year.He also won Best African Act award at the MTV Africa Music Awards.
