Joan Onyeamechi Mrakpor, a Director General of Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, and wife of immediate past Commissioner and Attorney- General for Justice of the State has on Friday, June 18, ordered the immediate arrest of Linus Okolo, an Assistant Editor with South South magazine.

The arrest of the reporter came hours after Okolo placed a call to Mrs Mrakpor requesting her response to an Investigative story he’s working on, which concerns her and her office.

According to SP Dimka of Eagle Net department, Police headquarters, Asaba, Okolo was actually in their custody following a petition written against the Journalist by Mrs Mrakpor and ordering for his Immediate arrest. According to him, the petition is based on defamation of character.

As at press time Okolo is still at the police custody. A call to the PPRO of Delta State’s phone was not connecting same with the CP, Delta State.
The publisher of the magazine, Ovie Edomi, expressed concern why “a public officer paid with tax payers money” would order the arrest a Journalist for carrying out his social responsibility.
