Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun State governor has called on residents of the state to ensure that their waste materials are properly disposed and not placed on the newly constructed roads in the state.
The governor stated this on Thursday while delivering a keynote speech at the 2014 World Environment Day event held at the Hubert Ogunde Cinema House, Cultural Center, Abeokuta.
He also warned Ogun residents not to dump their waste in the drainage systems of the state as this could block the free flow of water and lead to major flood disasters.
The governor also called on Ogun citizens to work hand in hand with the government to help in the fight against global warming and climate change affecting not only the state but also the world at large.
“Its a thing of concern that I see waste product being dumped into the drainage systems constructed to help reduce flooding, Ogun State is working on the green initiative and black nylon will be distributed to every house in Ogun State to pack their refuses and the Ogun State waste disposal workers would always come around to pick up the nylons and any house that doesn’t pack their waste in the black nylon is violating the rule,” Amosun warned.
Speaking at the same event, Bamidele Badejo, Dean, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, expressed support for Amosun’s views and enjoined the government to mainstream the green initiative into the agenda as this has a lot of benefits for the environment and the people.
