EFCC urges workers to help fight Corruption

Ibrahim Lamorde, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has urged Nigerian workers both in the public and private sectors to help curb corruption in the country.

The EFCC’s boss made this known at the opening of a sensitization programme for staff of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund in Abuja on Wednesday.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the EFCC and signed by Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the anti-graft agency said Lamorde who was represented at the event by Osita Nwajah, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, EFCC, said the programme was in line with the mandate of the agency to prevent corruption.

“Section six of the EFCC Act requires the commission to, in addition to its enforcement responsibilities, take measures to prevent economic crimes through public enlightenment and education. The essence of the sensitization is to take the anti-graft campaign to work places and encourage workers to embrace the fight against corruption,” he said.

Lamorde pleaded for combined efforts in the fight against corruption, saying that the fight can only be won with the support of all Nigerians. While imploring participants at the sensitization programme to ensure that illegal oil bunkering offenders were tracked down and duly prosecuted, the Chairman said that the commission also had the mandate to investigate petroleum subsidy fraud. “The unit also had the mandate to investigate illegal oil bunkering, mining and other related offences,” he said.
