Ekiti Poll: INEC Ready For Hitch Free Elections– Pai, REC

Halilu Pai, resident electoral commissioner, REC, Ekiti State, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that everything is in place to ensure a peaceful, credible and successful election in the state tomorrow.

The INEC state boss told the magazine that he had inspected all electoral materials before they were sent to all the local governments in the state, in order to put the logistics in place before the election on Saturday.

Assuring all stakeholders and electorates of INEC’s preparedness for the governorship election, Pai explained that a successful election is not about the umpire alone because everybody is involved in the process and should contribute to the success of the election.

“All Permanent Voters Card, PVC, holders should endeavour to go for accreditation at the polling unit where they collected their cards. Anyone without PVC do not have any business being at the polling unit on election day,” he said.

The REC disclosed that about 60 per cent of the PVC in the state had been collected adding that, “the breakdown of the collection would be made available to political parties when the exercise is rounded off.”

He said voters should be at their polling unit where they registered at 8 am for accreditation and by 12.30 am they should be back on the queue, ready to perform the voting proper. He expects counting to start around 3 pm.

“I expect counting of ballot papers to start at the polling units and immediately goes for collation and by this INEC can achieve its target of announcing the election within 48 hours,” he noted.

Pai added that while the result in each polling unit would be pasted at the ward level and also made available to the party agents and security agencies, the returning officer would only announce the result at the state level.
