Prominent Nigerian activist and political commentator, Comrade Deji Adeyanju, has publicly appealed to Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate, to consider joining a political coalition in the interest of national progress.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, Adeyanju acknowledged Sowore’s integrity and his consistent stand against corruption, describing him as “different and unlike the thieving Nigerian politicians.” He, however, encouraged Sowore to set aside ideological rigidity and embrace political coalition-building as a necessary sacrifice in these “extraordinary circumstances.”
“Forget about what people say about your long-lasting principles and ideological values… you will earn the permanent respect and admiration of all Nigerians if you make such a painful sacrifice,” Adeyanju wrote.
He emphasised that politics is a game of numbers, not morality or activism alone, and urged Sowore to think strategically rather than idealistically.
“Let me also say that even in churches, there are witches and wizards,” Adeyanju quipped, drawing attention to the imperfections in every institution but stressing the need to engage anyway for the greater good.
The activist reminded Sowore that critics will always exist, particularly those aligned with rival political figures, and reassured him that he has nothing to prove to detractors.
“Just consider the idea of joining the coalition, sir. Respect and love always—even if you don’t join,” Adeyanju concluded.
This public appeal has sparked widespread discussion on X (formerly Twitter), with many Nigerians weighing in on the need for a united front among reformist political figures ahead of future elections.
Sowore, known for his unflinching stance against establishment politics and his “Take It Back” movement, is yet to issue a response.
