Former Imo State Governor and Senator representing Okigwe West senatorial zone in the National Assembly, Rochas Okorocha is presently cooling his heels at the criminal investigation department, CID of the Imo State Police Command.
The arrest of the former governor in Owerri, the state capital, on the orders of his successor, Hope Uzodimma, sources who should know hinted the magazine, had to do with his brazen action of forcefully repossessing the controversial Royal Palm Estate hitherto belonging to his wife, Nkechi, but seized by the state government.
Okorocha, in company with his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, and some suspected armed thugs, had on Sunday, reportedly stormed the sealed property and broke the keys in a bid to to recover it.
Yet another source accused him of having personally supervised the destruction and vandalisation of security vehicles, and breaking into Imo State government property.
It was gathered that fracas broke out when supporters and agents of the government confronted Okorocha and his goons leaving one person injured.
Recall that the government had on Friday confiscated the Royal Palm Estate along Akachi Road, Owerri.
The state Commissioner for Lands, Enyinnaya Onuegbu, who led the operation, explained that the action was in compliance with the directive of the Imo State gazette on the report of the Judicial Commission of Enquiry on recovery of Lands and other related matters
