The next edition of The Future Awards Africa, one of Africa’s youth awards, will hold in December this year. This was contained in a press statement by the organisers, The Future Project. This year’s event, the tenth in the series, will be preceded by town hall meetings in 10 African cities: Durban, Johannesburg, Dakar, Accra, Dar es Salaam, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Banjul, Kano and Lagos.
The town hall meetings, slated to hold between August and September are designed to create avenue for young people to hold meaningful dialogue aimed at tackling issues facing the continent as well as providing them opportunity to nominate individuals for the award. Only persons within the age of 18 to 31 are eligible for nomination. The theme for this year’s edition is “Imagine Africa!” and is meant to highlight young Africans fulfilling the promise of the continent.
According to Mfon Ekpo, Executive director of The Future Project, “young people across the continent are becoming increasingly aware that tackling the issues and collaborating on unique solutions can generate powerful multipliers effect that create wide-ranging impact—not only in their local communities and countries, but also in the rest of Africa.” He added that there’s “need to ensure these voices are heard and recognised as a rich source of inspiration and ideas that will transform our continent, and TFP is excited to help take these first steps.”
The awards target individuals who have been able to make impact within their community or globally in the previous year. The aim is to inspire other young people to follow suit.
