Report just coming in say the wife of late former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba has been freed by her captors.
Hassana Garuba, a lawyer, was abducted on Saturday afternoon by kidnappers in Kabba area of Kogi State while conveying her husband’s remains to Auchi in Edo State for burial. The late Garuba died in the early hours of Saturday July 18, 2020 after a brief illness.
He was laid to rest at his country home in Auchi according to Muslim rites. Unfortunately, Hassana could not pay her last respect because of her kidnap.
The kidnappers had demanded N20 million ransom which the family, the magazine gathered, was rallying round to raise. She was however said to have regained her freedom around 8 pm Monday night along with the driver.
She has since reunited with her family. Her three children and mother in law were traveling in the same vehicle with her when they were attacked and she was taken away with the driver.
Details of how they were released were sketchy. They were however said to have emerged from a bush into a main road around 8 pm.
