HID’s death a great loss – Amosun Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun has described the death of the matriach of the Awolowo family as a great loss.
In a statement announcing the passing into glory of Mama HID Awolowo, the governor said her exit deserved celebration because her life and times were noble and golden.
According to Amosun “Nigeria has lost a role model of distinction, a highly disciplined and principled woman, a trustworthy ally and dependable politician who equally made her mark in the business world”.
Ecomiums continue to pour in as political associates of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo mourn the passage of his jewel of inestimable value.
Former private secretary of the late sage, Odia Ofeimun, has said Mama HID was a great woman, fearless and very different from wives of many of today’s politicians in Nigerian. He noted that she was the only woman he knows who never prevented her husband from attaining political height, instead she supported him all the way.
Ofeimun added that Mama HID subordinated her ambition, her business, her life in support of her husband so much so that her children never were a stumbling block to making her husband excel.

Ofeimun said she was one woman who her husband never had to wait for, whenever they had an outing because she was always prepared. “She was always the first to be ready waiting by the car. If she had a business and it would jeopardise her husband’s political stance, she would jettison it” , he said.
