As the November 25 burial date of the late matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo draws close, a book about her life and times, has been published.
The book, In the Radiance of the Sage: the life and times of HID Awolowo, written by Wale Adebanwi, associate professor, University of California, Davis, USA, chronicles Mama Awolowo’s ordeals and victories as she partnered her husband in both public and private lives.
According to Adebanwi, the book weaves “an intriguing story of the ordeals and victories of a courageous, self-sacrificing, enterprising and cultivated woman who was the backbone of her husband’s exceptional accomplishments as a political leader, administrator and thinker.”
The book also shows that HID Awolowo was not merely an appendage of her husband, but one who embodied the radiance of Awolowo’s existence.
