How Female Police Officer, Uduma, Was Dismissed for Attempted Extortion of ₦1m from Colleague to Cover Rape of Suspect and Conniving Husband Demoted – Edo Police
The Edo State Police Command has explained circumstances leading to the dismissal of a female police officer, Edith Uduma, an Inspector of police, accusing her of attempting to extort ₦1million from a fellow officer, one Abraham, a sergeant, accused of rape. A statement on Sunday night by the state police public relations officer, (PPRO) Moses Yamu, said Uduma, in connivance with her husband, Ibrahim Mohammed, of the same rank, attempted to extort the said sum from Abraham to cover the alleged crime but went ahead to expose him when he could not meet their demand. However, while Uduma was dismissed along with Abraham, Mohammed was reduced in rank. The statement reads: “The Edo State Police Command deems it necessary to set the records straight regarding this subject matter. “That contrary to reports from certain quarters, the said female Police Officer, AP/no 228719 Insp. Edith Uduma was the Charge Room Officer (CRO) on 07/10/2024, the night F/No. 504694 Sgt Abraham allegedly raped a female suspect in the station. “The female Officer, instead of reporting the incident to the Divisional Police Officer or the Incident Duty Officer as the case may be, for disciplinary actions to be initiated against the erring officer, took advantage of the situation to enrich herself by calling her husband, AP No. 228652 Insp. Ibrahim Mohammed whom she conspired with to unlawfully demand the sum of N1million from the sergeant to assist him conceal the matter. “However, the Sergeant offered only ₦45,000. Dissatisfied by his offer, they decided to report the erring officer to the DPO and also shared the video on social media. “Following these events, an orderly room trial was initiated against all the officers, which led to the dismissal of Sgt. Abraham and Insp Edith Uduma. “Her husband, Insp Ibrahim Mohammed, however, was reduced to the rank of Sergeant for getting criminally involved in demanding for money to conceal such a gross violation of the Standard Operating Procedure of the Nigeria Police. “To this end, the Edo State Police Command warns that no amount of propaganda, disinformation or misinformation can absolve her or the husband from facing the punishment meted on them. “Anyone of them that is displeased with the judgement has the right to appeal as stipulated in the Police Act and Regulation”.
