Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have dismantled an alleged illegal baby factory operating in Ikere Local Government Area, rescuing six children aged between two and nine years and saving a heavily pregnant young woman from suspected exploitation.

The operation, carried out on January 24, 2026, followed a credible intelligence report received by the police around 8:30 a.m., indicating suspicious activities at a building located behind Inisa Hotel and Suites along Ise-Ekiti Road, Ikere-Ekiti.

Briefing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joe Eribo, confirmed the arrest of five suspects, including the alleged prime operator of the facility, 43-year-old Oluwadare Onyechi. Other suspects arrested during the raid include:

• Onuoha Gloria (28)
• Victoria Linus (25)
• Ihegbogu Mercy (21)
• Emmanuel Esther (23), who was reported to be heavily pregnant at the time of the arrest

According to the police, officers cordoned off the premises and conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery of the children, who are believed to have been unlawfully confined and possibly prepared for illegal adoption or trafficking.

The pregnant woman was immediately rescued and handed over to relevant authorities for medical care and protective support.

“These so-called baby factories exploit vulnerable women and children for profit,” CP Eribo stated. “The Ekiti State Police Command remains committed to dismantling such criminal networks and protecting the rights and dignity of children.”

All suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The rescued children have been transferred to appropriate child welfare agencies, where they are receiving medical checks, psychosocial care, and temporary shelter pending further action.

The development has sparked widespread public outrage, with discussions trending across social media platforms and renewed calls for tougher enforcement against child trafficking and illegal adoption rings in Nigeria.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing and that additional arrests may follow.
