It is one of those tournaments that provide opportunity for budding footballers as well as sports administrators and coaches to identify talents. The sixth edition of the Under 13 Kids Football Cup held at the Sports Centre of the University of Lagos also kept the tradition of rewarding efforts of budding footballers. The winner this year is the Varsity Football Academy of Lagos Island, which got the star prize of ₦750,000 with other gifts. They had beaten B United Club of Mainland, which lost the finals to them, by conceding a lone goal, and went home with a handsome sum of ₦500,000. The third position earned the First Class Football Club of Lagos Island the sum of ₦350,000. The Strong Dove of Orile, the team that yielded the third place to them, got ₦250,000.

However, those were not the only rewards that closed this year’s event. Aside from the teams, outstanding footballers were also recognised and they went home with cash awards. They are three outstanding players: Abdllahi Akinremi, voted as the most valuable player; Marvelon Gaver, highest goal scorer and Alex Peter, the best goalkeeper. Each of them got ₦25,000.
The sponsor of the tournament, Dr Olusegun Olugboyegun, Chairman of JOF Nigeria Limited, with his wife and some other dignitaries, were in attendance.

In his remark, he praised the organisers, the Lagos State Grassroots Football Association and the Organising Committee, for putting in place a commendable 6th edition of the tournament.
He said the next edition will give ample opportunity to Southwest kid teams to participate in the under 13 Kids Football CUP.
The JOF Under-13 Football Tournament has served as a platform for nurturing young footballers across Nigeria, providing a structured environment for them to grow not just as athletes but as individuals capable of leadership, collaboration and resilience.
