Jordan authorities have said that they are ready to hand over an Iraqi woman on death row in exchange for a Jordanian pilot being held hostage by Islamic State militants.
The decision comes ahead of a 24-hour deadline by IS to kill Moaz al-Kasasbeh and Japanese hostage, Kenji Goto.
The ultimatum was issued in a video aired on Tuesday.
The Iraqi woman, Sajida al-Rishawi, is an al-qaeda militant sentenced to death in Jordan, after she was convicted for her involvement in an attack that killed 60 people.
Jordanian government spokesman, Mohammad al-Momani, said “Jordan is ready to release prisoner Sajida Rishawi if the Jordanian pilot Lt Moaz al-Kasasbeh was released and his life spared.”
