Lagos, Cape Town, Cairo, and Marrakech Ranked Among World’s Top 20 Nightlife Cities in 2025 by Time Out
From Afrobeats in Lagos to rooftop lounges in Marrakech, four African cities earn global recognition in Time Out’s 2025 list of the world’s best nightlife destinations.
Africa is lighting up the global stage, and this time it’s after dark. In its highly anticipated 2025 Nightlife Cities Ranking, renowned lifestyle publication Time Out has listed four African cities among the top 20 best nightlife destinations in the world.
Leading the continent at No. 11, Cape Town was praised for its eclectic blend of “grit, glamour, and groove.” The city’s vibrant cultural mix, legendary electronic music scene—thanks to global stars like Black Coffee and affordability landed it the top spot in Africa. Over 77% of residents rated the nightlife as “good” or “amazing,” citing everything from rooftop parties to immersive underground raves.
Lagos secured the 14th spot, representing West Africa with its Afrobeats-fueled energy and booming party culture. With 79% of locals rating the nightlife scene highly, Lagos is evolving from luxury lounges to more diverse, youth-driven events like Sweat It Out Lagos and Our Group Therapy, which promote inclusivity and community through sound, fashion, and vibe.
At No. 15, Cairo impressed with its unique blend of traditional and modern nightlife. From classic shisha cafes to emerging speakeasy-style cocktail bars, 79% of Cairo locals said their nightlife was both vibrant and affordable. The city’s ability to mix heritage and innovation has redefined what a night out in the Middle East looks like.
Marrakech rounded out Africa’s entries at No. 19, thanks to its colorful mix of rooftop lounges, medina-side nightclubs, and stylish bars. Time Out noted that 72% of residents find the city’s nightlife scene both enjoyable and cost-friendly, with neighborhoods like Gueliz and Hivernage offering a rich tapestry of culture, music, and night-time experiences.
Time Out’s rankings were based on responses from over 20,000 city dwellers worldwide, analyzing nightlife quality, affordability, local vibe, safety, and innovation.
