A devastating incident has sent shockwaves through Accra after a newborn baby was allegedly abducted from the maternity ward of Mamprobi Polyclinic just moments after the child was delivered via cesarean section.

Family members say the mother had undergone a successful C-section and was recovering under medical supervision when an unidentified woman reportedly entered the post-operative ward, picked up the baby from beside her bed, and walked out of the facility without raising immediate suspicion.

The alleged abduction was later discovered, prompting panic within the hospital and among relatives. CCTV cameras installed at the facility reportedly captured clear footage of the suspect inside the premises and exiting the clinic while carrying what appears to be the wrapped newborn. Still images from the footage have since circulated widely across social media platforms as part of efforts to identify the woman.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed. Officers from the Mamprobi Division have launched an active investigation, reviewing surveillance footage, questioning hospital staff, and tracking potential leads. As of the time of this report, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.

The incident has ignited widespread public concern, with many Ghanaians demanding answers about maternity ward security protocols. Online commentators are questioning how an individual could allegedly leave a healthcare facility with a newborn undetected.

Security experts note that hospital infant protection typically relies on controlled visitor access, staff monitoring, and identification procedures between mothers and newborns. Advocacy groups are now urging the Ghana Health Service to strengthen nationwide enforcement of maternity ward safety guidelines and surveillance systems.

Authorities are appealing to members of the public to provide credible information that may assist in locating the baby. Anyone with verified details is encouraged to contact the nearest police station or call Ghana’s emergency numbers, 191 or 112. Officials have also cautioned against spreading unverified claims online, emphasizing that accurate information is crucial to the investigation.

As the search intensifies, the family remains in deep distress, awaiting positive news. Law enforcement agencies say all available resources are being deployed to ensure the safe recovery of the newborn.

This remains a developing story. Updates will follow as new information emerges.
