During a sitting presided over Ahmed Mohammed, by the Speaker of the House, 20 out of the 24 lawmakers in the Nasarawa state house of assembly signed the impeachment notice. The House commenced the impeachment proceedings on Monday with a 16-count charge, which borders on extra-budgetary expenses and other allegations against Al-Makura.

Nasarawa state has 20 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers and 4 All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers with the governor being a member of the APC.

The notice of impeachment was agreed upon few hours before President Goodluck Jonathan visited the state to commission a rice farm in Doma.
