A disturbing video circulating widely across social media has ignited outrage across the country after showing armed bandits assaulting a kidnapped father and his two young children in Niger State.

The short clip, reportedly recorded in a remote forest location, shows the blindfolded victims pleading for mercy in the Nupe language while their captors issue threats and strike them repeatedly. Observers believe the footage was intentionally released to pressure relatives into paying ransom quickly and to amplify fear among the public. Due to its distressing nature, the video is not being displayed.

The emotional reaction online has been swift and intense. Many Nigerians described the treatment of the victims — particularly the involvement of small children — as heartbreaking and inhumane. Social commentator Sulaiman Uwaisu Idris condemned the act as “utterly dehumanizing,” while Peter Akah called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently strengthen security operations and end the persistent cycle of abductions devastating communities.

In a separate but equally troubling video circulating at the same time, a young member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Abba, is seen being flogged while still dressed in his khaki uniform. The corps member is heard pleading with his captors and appealing for compassion. Reports indicate his family is struggling to raise a ₦5 million ransom demand, underscoring the heavy financial burden kidnappings impose on ordinary Nigerians.

These incidents reflect the ongoing wave of banditry and mass abductions affecting several northern and north-central states, including Kaduna State and Kwara State. Armed criminal groups continue to target villages, highways, schools, and even places of worship, abducting victims for ransom and, in some cases, releasing videos to intimidate families and pressure authorities.

Public frustration is mounting as citizens question the effectiveness of existing security measures and demand stronger intelligence operations, improved community protection, and decisive strategies to dismantle criminal networks. As the videos continue to spread online, they serve as a painful reminder of the deepening insecurity crisis and the urgent national demand for leadership that guarantees the safety and dignity of every Nigerian.
