The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s recent preemptive military strike on Iran, warning that the resulting hostilities threaten to destabilise the entire Middle East and disrupt global peace and economic stability.

In an official statement released on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Nigeria expressed deep concern over the growing exchange of missile and aerial attacks between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, calling the situation “gravely concerning” and urging both nations to show maximum restraint.

The Nigerian government emphasised that the cycle of retaliation not only endangers the lives of innocent civilians but also risks dragging the wider region into a prolonged crisis with far-reaching consequences for international security and development.

“As a nation committed to peaceful coexistence and multilateral diplomacy, Nigeria urges all involved to return to the path of dialogue,” the statement read. “We call on the United Nations Security Council and the broader international community to act swiftly to de-escalate tensions and facilitate meaningful engagement.”

Nigeria stressed that military action is not a viable substitute for negotiation and reiterated its belief that lasting peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, mutual respect, and adherence to international law.

Signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the statement reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to support any credible efforts aimed at restoring peace in the Middle East.

As global leaders weigh in on the intensifying conflict, Nigeria joins the growing chorus of nations advocating for an immediate ceasefire, signaling the urgent need for diplomatic solutions over armed confrontation.
