In a no-holds-barred conversation, Amaechi accused President Tinubu of deliberately fueling voter apathy as a strategy for electoral manipulation:

“Their game plan is to keep people disillusioned, so nobody comes out to vote, and then they announce whoever they want. That’s the 2027 strategy,” he said.

Amaechi emphasised his readiness to be President, vowing to publicly disclose his academic and medical history — a swipe many interpreted as aimed at President Tinubu, whose educational background has been widely debated.

He also described Nigerians as “docile people who want a revolution but are scared to bleed,” criticising the public’s tolerance of failed leadership and systemic oppression.

In an explosive comparison, Amaechi claimed that former President Muhammadu Buhari, despite his failings, performed better than Tinubu:

“At least Buhari didn’t destroy the middle class. Now you are either poor or part of the elite circle feeding off government connections.”

The ex-governor of Rivers State went further to accuse INEC of political bias, alleging that the commission is receiving “orders from above” to frustrate the registration of new political parties in order to prevent a credible challenge in 2027.

“We’ve tried to register a new party with full compliance. INEC ignored it. The 2023 elections were the worst since 2007 under Maurice Iwu. And now, INEC is no longer independent.”

Amaechi also claimed that state governors have lost their voice, accusing the APC-led federal government of consolidating power and silencing dissent.

On 2027, he revealed that the proposed opposition coalition may zone the presidency to the South, and if he emerges as the candidate, he would only serve one four-year term to allow the North to take over again afterward — a move he described as a national balancing strategy. He added that Peter Obi might be considering a similar agreement.

When asked whether he supported Tinubu in the 2023 election, Amaechi dodged the question, instead saying:

“2027 is not about APC vs ADC. It’s about the people versus Tinubu. I don’t want an appointment. I want Nigeria to work.”

As the opposition coalition continues to build momentum, ruling party loyalists are already casting doubts on its viability, suggesting that Amaechi, Obi, and Atiku will clash over the presidential ticket — a claim Amaechi dismissed as false and distractive.

Online, Nigerians are reacting strongly to the interview, with many hailing Amaechi’s boldness, while others remain skeptical of his intentions.

One thing is certain: the 2027 political race has unofficially begun, and Rotimi Amaechi has thrown the first punch.
