The Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights, CDWR, Osun State Chapter on Wednesday, March 4, called on the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife to reinstate six student activists who they say are currently under politically motivated suspension.

Four of these student activists: Olubanji Oluwole, Adabale Olamide, Adewumagun Johnson and Sanyaolu Adejuwon were suspended in July 2014.

They were said to have been suspended due to the leading roles they played in the struggle for the restoration of the students’ union in the institution which until a year ago, was suspended for three years. The students were also said to have incurred the school management’s wrath due to their campaign as members of the Education Rights Campaign, ERC, against the recently hiked school fees.

While, on the basis of their struggle, the students’ union has been restored, CDWR alleged that the student activists who led this agitation are being victimized by the university authorities.
