The Economics and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has charged Osinachi Nwachukwu and Ifeyinwa Nwachukwu to a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital for an offense bordering on fraud.
The couple is facing a 3-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining the sum of N800, 000 by false pretence from one Charles Iferenta under the guise of selling a Honda CRV mini SUV car to him.
The charges preferred against them reads in part, “That you, Osinachi Nwachukwu on or about the 13th of September 2013, at Port Harcourt, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with the intent to defraud, did induce Mr. Charles Iferenta to part with the sum of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N800, 000.00) through Ibe Ifeyinwa Vivian’s GTB Account No. 0023171469 under the pretext that a 2007 Model Honda CRV car will be purchased and delivered to him and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.”
But the couple has pleaded not guilty to the offense.
Upon taking their pleas, Justice U.N Agumoh granted the first accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum. His wife was admitted to bail in self-recognition due to her pregnancy, but ordered to sign an undertaking to be available for trial.
Agumoh has adjourned the matter, which was first held on Monday, February 2 to March 25 for hearing.
