The Benin monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare 11, is deeply concerned that in spite of Nigeria’s cultural diversity and religions, there is still domestic terrorism in the country. The royal father, who spoke on Thursday when he played host to members of the Arewa community who paid him a courtesy visit in his palace, expressed worry about daily reports reaching him from across the state by fellow traditional rulers on security challenges in their domains, and seeking his intervention.
He therefore charged leaders of different ethnic groups in the state to collaborate in tackling security challenges.
According to the Benin monarch, “…It is always easy to achieve peace and security when there is oneness, not division. It is easier to find solutions.
“On a daily basis, I get complaints on security matters from Edo North and Edo Central senatorial districts. Some of the traditional rulers there come to me for intervention. We will try our best. We will try our best. As it is all over the world…I wonder that in Nigeria, with so much cultural diversity and religions, yet, there is still domestic terrorism”.
Earlier, the Chairman of Arewa community and Sarkin Hausawa, Adamu Isa, pledged loyalty to the Benin throne, and sued for his blessings. He extolled the sterling leadership qualities of the Oba and thanked him for his support and prayers in unifying Benin Kingdom.
Isa also sued for closer ties between the Benin throne and the Arewa community and villages that are administered by proxies of the monarch in order to fight crimes.
