Lai Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that the defection of Segun Adesegun, deputy governor of Ogun State and Olusegun Osoba, to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, will affect the APC in next year’s election.

He however assured that it will not affect the “overall chances” of the party in the general elections.

Mohammed said this on Thursday in Abuja while addressing reporters over the development.

Apart from Adesegun and the former governor, all APC Senators from Ogun State, namely Adegbenga Kaka, Gbenga Obadara and Akin Odunsi, who represent Ogun East, Ogun Central and Ogun West respectively were also reported to have joined the SDP.

Others are: Kunle Adeyemi, Babatunde Olabode, Olumide Osoba, Abiodun Abudu, Odeleye Kehinde and Bukunola Buraimo, members of the House of Representatives who also left the party following months of intra party conflicts.

”Yes, the defection of some our members will create some challenges for our party, but we will go back to the drawing board to re-strategise and redouble our efforts to retain the state in 2015,” Mohammed assured.
