Somewhat like the proverbial cat with nine lives, Slaven Bilic, had been avoiding the axe for a while now at West Ham United. However, this cat seems to have run out of lives, as the West Ham board have decided to axe him.
For a while now, it has seemed as though Slaven was simply hanging on for dear life. While his team had been unstoppable at times, this season, however, despite the new signings, the team, right from the opening day of the league, failed to make a mark. It lost 4 nil to Manchester United in its first match.
Lots of West Ham fans became disillusioned with Slavens’s management of the first team after a difficult second season in which they finished 11th. This is after Bilic enjoyed an impressive, Dimitri Payet inspired debut campaign where West Ham finished seventh in the Premier League. West Ham fans might be forgiven for thinking their team might manage to break into Europe again, however, they have been sorely disappointed, as West Ham find themselves in the relegation waters after 11 games with a disappointing 9 points, managing to net a dismal 11 times.
The Croatian managed a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the League Cup two weeks ago to buy himself more time, but after throwing away a two-goal lead to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park a few days later and then being demolished 4-1 by Liverpool on Saturday, the Hammers’ board decided that Slaven time at the London Stadium is up.
The club is expected to officially make an announcement at lunchtime today. Meanwhile, rumours has it that former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes is expected to take over as manager until the end of the season. But with the performance of Moyes at Sunderland last season, there just might still be troubling times ahead for the club.
