Tunji Abayomi, lawyer and rights activist, has urged Nigerian youths to unite against corruption. He made the call while delivering a lecture at a symposium held at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba, today, Wednesday, November 1, 2017. The symposium titled, a Roundtable on Best Strategies in Engaging the Youths in Nigeria’s Anti-Corruption War, was organised by Sustainable Development And Transparency Foundation, SDTF, an anti-graft non-governmental organization established by Shola Oshunkeye, an award-winning Nigerian Editor. The event drew eminent personalities in the media as well as the academia. They include Dare Babarinsa, veteran journalist and managing director, Gaskiya Limited, Funke Egbemode, managing editor, New Telegraph and president, Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, Wola Adeyemo, executive editor, TELL Magazine, among others. The students, staff and non-teaching staff of NIJ were also present at the event. Abayomi urged them to stand up for something and tackle corruption in their own little way, otherwise, they will fall for anything.According to the lawyer, the most difficult national challenge Nigeria is facing today is corruption. He cited various cases of corruption and personal experiences to buttress the level of corruption in the country which sobered many in the audience. Abayomi warned that if the present generation fails to act now the future of the country is in grave danger. “We need to move the anti-corruption war from war of government, by the government and for the government to the war of the people especially the youths who make the largest number of our population. The youths must take war against corruption just like the war against military dictatorship,” he advised.
