As political scheming around the 2027 general elections intensifies, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent chieftain of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has issued a stern warning to politicians: stop distracting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with premature power tussles.

Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, the former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) expressed concern over what he described as “unnecessary agitations” about 2027. He urged political stakeholders to allow the president to focus on the more urgent task of fixing Nigeria’s pressing socio-economic problems.

“Rather than engaging in early jostling for political positions, our leaders should be supporting the president in addressing critical national issues,” Oyintiloye said.

He noted that President Tinubu inherited a troubled economy in 2023 marked by a ballooning debt profile, a volatile naira, and unsustainable fuel subsidy expenditures. Yet, he added, the president has since implemented bold reforms that are gradually stabilizing the economy.

“Through his technocratic background, President Tinubu has rekindled a ray of hope in the country,” he said. “His swift removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the exchange rate are beginning to yield positive results.”

Oyintiloye expressed disappointment at how some politicians are already positioning themselves for roles in 2027, including those eyeing the vice presidency.

“It is worrisome that while the president is tackling major national challenges like economic revival, security threats, and infrastructure development some political opportunists are more focused on 2027 elections,” he said.

He warned that such distractions could derail the progress being made and described the ongoing power games as “nauseating.”

“We’re barely halfway through this administration. The 2027 election is still over a year and a half away. This premature politicking must stop,” he said.

The APC stalwart emphasized that what Nigeria needs now is unity, not division.

“The president needs our collective support, prayers, and solidarity not this early scramble for power. Let’s focus on governance, not ambition,” Oyintiloye concluded.
