Tension Mounts in Owerri

INEC officials and journalists were on Sunday held hostage at the commission’s office in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Tension mounted as news filtered in that a group of protesters believed to be supporters of the  APC were advancing towards INEC office from the Asumta Cathedral end of Owerri – Port Harcourt Road.
Security officials at the commission’s office declared an emergency and advised everyone within the premises on the necessary steps to take in the event of shooting.

A team of INEC staff that returned from their duty post in Nwangele Local Government Area of the state reported that the team was accosted at Akwakuma junction by Governor Rochas Okorocha, who demanded the election results from the area.
