Lagos PDP Allege Sinister Moves To Alter Results

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has raised allegations of sinister plans to alter the results of the just concluded presidential and National Assembly election in the state.

In a petition addressed to Akin Orebiyi, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in the early hours of Monday, the party said the continued delay of the results especially of some areas they consider as their stronghold suggests that something sinister was afoot.

Whereas the Commission had promised to kick-start  declaration of the results with 5 local government areas including Badagry, it only announced that of Ibeju/Lekki: APC: 12016, PDP: 10,812; Ikorodu: APC: 49901, PDP: 29,604; Epe LGA where the PDP had also alleged that election was not conducted in 30-poling units, APC scored 19,179 while PDP 16,400. Mainland LGA: APC: 33,898. PDP: 23,857. The Commission is however yet to announce the result for Badagry local government without explanation.

Decrying the delay, Wahab Owokoniran, PDP agent said election has long been concluded in most of the LGAs whose results are yet to arrive the INEC office for collation “What is delaying those result?” he queried.

Owokoniran said his party is basically worried because “most of the areas that are being delayed are areas our party know according to our records won! So why are they still delaying them? They are most of the local governments in Lagos west senatorial district – Badagry, Ojo, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofi, Ajeromi- Ifelodun and so on.”

He however said his party, would accept the results when eventually released if they tally with the records of the party.

Tokunbo Afikuyomi, APC agent said they (PDP) are “talking out of ignorance. They are the ones delaying collation. They are the ones using thugs, all manna of security, OPC and everything to disrupt collation in some local governments, and yet they are talking. They just talk out of ignorance or mischief.”

He said his party is concerned but “we have to wait and see what has happened. We want to interview the E.Os. I cannot be making accusations and speculations in the air.”
