If you plan to use the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway between Friday, June 6 and Sunday, June 8, 2025, be prepared for heavy traffic delays as multiple major events are expected to bring tens of thousands of people to the corridor.

Today, Thursday, June 5, marks the beginning of the build-up. However, the real traffic surge is expected to start Friday, June 6, with two major events coinciding: Eid-el-Kabir (Sallah Day) and the RCCG Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption City. Both are known to cause significant traffic on their own—but happening together, they are likely to bring the expressway to a standstill.

The situation won’t ease up on Saturday, June 7, as the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries’ (MFM) Power Must Change Hands programme takes place at Prayer City, also located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. This is another major religious event that regularly attracts large crowds and causes bottlenecks.

With thousands expected to travel for religious observances and holiday festivities, road users should anticipate long delays, especially around the Redemption City and MFM Prayer City areas.

Motorists are strongly advised to plan ahead, explore alternative routes, or travel outside peak hours to avoid being caught in the expected gridlock.
