Regulatory authorities in Zambia have banned an energy drink after a laboratory results showed it hidden content and possible negative effect.

Laboratory tests showed that the drink contained the active ingredient of the anti-impotence drug, Viagra. The SX Energy Natural Power drink, reports say, is produced by Revin Zambia and exported around the region up to Uganda.

The banned was effected when recently, a consumer complained of a prolonged erection and profuse sweating.

At the late hour on Wednesday, a spokesperson of Ndola city, Tilyenji Mwanza said in a statement that results from Zimbabwe and South Africa correlated with other tests conducted in Zambia, which signified “a positive presence of Sildenafil Citrate”, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction and dispensed under the brand name Viagra, which was also indicated by the medicine regulatory authority in December last year.

Energy drinks are very common in several other countries in Africa including Nigeria but no similar case of regulated drug being found in energy drinks has been reported.
