Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday said Nigeria Air Force was yet to acknowledge the gift of two amoured helicopters the state government gave to it to fight oil bunkering in the state.
Wike, who spoke while relaunching the special police unit C4i at Government House, also accused the air force of diverting the helicopters to areas not envisaged by the state government when it made the donation of the helicopters.
The governor, who said the helicopters cost $10 million, stated that no state government in Nigeria has made a donation of helicopters to the air Force or any other security agency.
“Rivers State, we have suffered too much for this country. But we won’t suffer again. It is not our portion,” the governor declared.
He promised to donate five gunboats each to the Navy and the army to patrol the creeks of Rivers State. But he warned that he would withdraw the boats if they were taken to other states.
While praising the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Friday Eloka, Wike warned him to stay out of politics. “Don’t go beyond crime and criminality. Don’t allow them to use you to carry ballot box,” he told the CP.
He later on presented patrol vans, communication gadgets and bullet proof vests to the men of the C4i squad.
