Wike Makes Good his Threat, Demolishes Hotels

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, made good his threat on Sunday morning when he demolished two hotels in the state for staying open for business after he ordered all businesses closed in the state.

On Sunday, he personally supervised the demolition of Prodest Hotel, Alode and Etemeteh Hotel, Onne in Eleme local government area of the state.

The governor had last week ordered all businesses in the state to close shop and declared a total lockdown of Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas. He warned that any hotel or business house that opened for business while the order persisted would be demolished while vehicles caught moving about would be impounded and auctioned.

On Saturday, the task force in Eleme local government area had a fracas with some youths of Alode where the task force had gone to close down Prudent Hotel. After the fracas, the governor declared the youth leader in the community wanted and placed a ransom of N5 million on him.

The locals were still wondering if the governor would carry out his threat when he moved in with demolition equipment and supervised the bringing down of the hotels.
