Leap AfricaTwenty Entrepreneurs on Thursday, November 13, bagged fellowship awards from LEAP Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation.

Speaking at the event, held in Lagos, Iyadunni Oludele, Executive Director, LEAP Africa explained that the Social Innovative Programme, SIP, is another phase of social change in Nigeria.

Oludele added that “Social Innovative Programme Awards, SIPA, is bringing together individuals and organizations from the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria and hosting them in Lagos to celebrate diversity, creativity and excellence of these young change makers shaping our society.”

Kehinde Ayeni, Managing Director, Communications and External Affairs of LEAP Africa, noted that, “globally, young people are helping to drive national competitiveness, economic growth, and achievement of social development goals through social entrepreneurship and innovation.

“Given that Nigeria’s youth make up about 70 per cent of the entire population, this critical mass of people can be our nation’s threat or her opportunity to attain its social development goals.”

Ogunye Doyinsola one of the new Fellowship awardees who initiated a Mental and Environmental Development Initiative for Children, MEDIC, in 2009 said, “awards like this help young people attain their dreams even when it seems unattainable.”

LEAP Africa encourages young Entrepreneurs by giving them mentorship and financial funding in a year fellowship programme.

Recipients of the award are young entrepreneurs emerging from different sectors of the economy ranging from agriculture to education, environment, health and the media.
