A major controversy has erupted in Rivers State after a teenage girl accused the Chairman of Ahoada West of orchestrating an assault against her following her viral posts exposing the poor condition of a public secondary school in their shared community.

The teenager, identified in multiple online reports as Winnie Uchechi — also referred to as Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi or Winnie Miller — had shared photos and videos highlighting the deteriorating state of Community Secondary School, Odiokwu (also spelled Oduoku), reportedly the only secondary school serving the area. The footage showed visibly damaged buildings, cracked walls, unsafe classrooms, and signs of prolonged neglect, prompting widespread calls for urgent renovation and accountability.

The posts quickly gained traction across Facebook, Instagram, and X, drawing attention from activists, residents, and media platforms. However, shortly after the content went viral, the teenager alleged that the Executive Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Eugene Chita Epelle, visited her family home accompanied by associates and security personnel.

In videos circulating online, the girl claimed she was physically manhandled during the encounter and sustained injuries, including a bruised lip. She also alleged that her mother was affected during the confrontation. According to her account, neighbors intervened to de-escalate the situation. The allegations have not been independently confirmed by law enforcement authorities.

In response, Chairman Epelle strongly denied the claims through his press secretary, describing the allegations as “false, malicious, and deliberately distorted.” The statement insisted that the chairman did not supervise or participate in any assault, bullying, or intimidation, adding that he exercised restraint despite what was characterized as provocation.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians condemning the alleged attack as an attempt to silence criticism and suppress public accountability. Social media users have called for a thorough police investigation and protection for citizens who expose governance failures. Civil society voices argue that the situation underscores broader challenges facing public education infrastructure in parts of Rivers State, where several schools reportedly remain in poor condition.

The controversy has also reignited debates about freedom of expression, youth activism, and the responsibilities of local government officials to address community concerns constructively rather than confrontationally.

With public pressure mounting, residents and advocacy groups are demanding transparency, justice, and immediate action to rehabilitate the school facility at the center of the dispute. Observers say the response from authorities could set an important precedent for how grassroots political leaders handle public scrutiny in Nigeria.

This remains a developing story. Updates will follow as verified information becomes available.
